WATER AND SEWER

The Kananaskis Improvement District (KID) provides water distribution and sewage collection servicing in key locations in the Evan Thomas provincial recreation area through its contracted service provider.

Public Works Department-Residential Water Meter Program

The Kananaskis Improvement District (KID) has implemented a water meter program to accurately track water usage throughout the Evan Thomas distribution system. This allows the KID and its operator to operate the water treatment facility in the most efficient manner possible.

The water meters used on most residential applications are Neptune T-10 meters which allows for meter reads to be done remotely. For more information about the meters please refer to the manufactures website at : http://neptunetg.com
For installations in non-heated spaces (i.e. crawl spaces, under mobile homes, etc), insulation and heat tape is required. It is very important that the heat tape and insulation remains in good operational condition at all times. The registered water user is responsible to regularly check the following;

  • Confirm that the electrical outlet that the heat tape is plugged into is energized and in good operating condition.
  • Confirm that the heat tape functions when temperatures drop below 0 degrees Celsius.
  • Confirm that the meter insulation box is in place and fully covering the meter.

Heat tape should be replaced if any damages occur to the exterior coating.
Heat tape has a nominal lifespan of 5-7 years and should be replaced on a regular basis as per the manufacture’s recommendation.

Any damage to the water meter, the water shut off valve and the water lines above or below grade caused by faulty heat tape or damaged insulation is the responsibility of the registered water user to repair.
