Community ProgramsBow Valley Victim Services AssociationThrough a partnership with the Bow Valley Victim Services Association (BVVSA), the KID provides a range of support services to victims of crime and trauma through information, referral, support, assistance, community liaison, and education. Established in 1994, the BVVSA is a not-for-profit, volunteer based, registered society that assists residents and visitors in Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise, Harvie Heights, Exshaw, Lac des Arcs and Kananaskis. The association operates from the Banff, Canmore, Kananaskis and Lake Louise RCMP detachments. Please visit the association’s web site for detailed information on BVVSA services. Marigold LibraryThe Kananaskis Improvement District is a partner in the Marigold Library System, a cooperative network of equal and autonomous libraries offering public library service to south-central Alberta established in March 1981 under the Libraries Act of Alberta. Household Hazardous Waste RoundupThe KID is pleased to offer residents and ratepayers a free, year-round disposal service for household hazardous wastes. Hazardous wastes include certain household products that may be flammable, corrosive, explosive or toxic and which should not be disposed of in landfills or sewage systems. Proper handling and disposal of these products will help prevent harm to people or the environment. For more information on the identification and handling of hazardous wastes, please visit Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre Hazardous Waste page. Simply bring your household hazardous wastes to the Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre for free disposal between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm. Common materials brought for disposal include abrasive cleaners, paint, batteries, old fuel, kerosene, medications, solvents and weed killers. A complete list is available at the Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre or here. All collected wastes are properly disposed of at the Swan Hills Treatment Centre. If you require any additional information about KID’s Hazardous Waste Roundup, please contact the Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre at (403) 591-7755. Electronics RecyclingThe KID is a member of the Alberta Recycling Management Authority and accepts e-waste at the Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre for proper disposal. These appliances contain materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, beryllium and PVC plastics that can cause significant environmental and health risks if they end up in landfills. However, the metals, glass and plastic in these products can be recycled into valuable products, including the next generation of electronics. Training ProgramsThe Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre offers Defensive Driving, Red Cross First Aid, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and fire extinguisher training programs. These programs can be customized to meet your needs, location and schedule, and employees can deliver these programs throughout the Kananaskis Improvement District for a minimal cost of materials and supplies. For additional information or to book one of our training programs, please contact Fire Chief Shawn Polley at the Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre at (403) 591-7755. |
