Kananaskis Emergency Services is seeking highly motivated, team players for this new position starting in 2016. Reporting to the Station Officer, the Casual Firefighter is responsible on an as-needed basis for all fire and rescue operations and operational assignments as provided from the Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre. This will include emergency and non-emergency operations as related to structural fire suppression, vehicle rescue, assisting with emergency medical services, structural rescue, hazardous material interventions, wildland urban interface, wildland fire suppression and assisting with backcountry / slope rescue. As well as routine equipment maintenance, station duties and public education activities.

Casual Firefighters will provide supplemental operational staffing on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday plus Mondays of long weekends). The 24 hour shifts include: 12 core hours (0800-2000) and 12 on-call hours (2000-0800). Accommodations during on-call hours are provided as well as access to fitness facilities.

Qualifications: Requirements include a High School Diploma plus completion of a recognized NFPA 1001-Level 2 program with a minimum two years related experience; NFPA 1002-Pump Operator; a valid Class 3/4 Alberta Operator’s License (or higher) with air brake endorsement with less than 6 demerit points; minimum Standard First Aid CPR-HCP.

Preference will be given to applicants that have completed NFPA 1002-Aerial Operator, NFPA 1051, ACP registered Emergency Medical Responder, have a demonstrated knowledge of the Kananaskis Improvement District and have completed an accredited Defensive Driving Course.

Wage: $20.00/hr (core) plus $5.00/hr (on-call) (responses during on-call hours will be paid at $20.00/hr)
