Kananaskis Emergency ServicesChief’s MessageWelcome to KID Emergency Services. Our focus has been community-level service since 1987, when we were established by the Government of Alberta for the residents of and visitors to Kananaskis Country. Preserving and protecting our community from the devastating effects of fire, both from wildland management and municipal standpoints, are critical in our business. Fire safety must start in our communities and, with your support, we endeavor to provide programs that reach our residents where it will make a difference, at your home and where you work. I hope you find these pages useful. We welcome comments or suggestion for additions. Shawn Polley, Chief of Emergency Services ServicesThe Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre (KESC) provides “frontcountry” and facility fire and rescue services through the Kananaskis Improvement District. Additional non-emergency calls include fire prevention and community educational programs, recruitment, and in-house training for all employees. KESC also provides Emergency 911 fire, and Alberta Parks mountain rescue dispatch services for the Kananaskis Region. KESC is committed to providing residents and visitors in the KID a level of service comparable to that provided by other rural municipalities. Fire protection services in the KID were established through KID Order No. 1. Emergency services available in the KID include the following: Vehicle Extrication and Rescue Municipal Fire Supression Wildland Fire Supression Home Safety Fire Inspections Fire Extinguisher Training First Aid and AED Training Public Fire Safety Education
StaffKESC personnel are fully cross-trained and qualified in fire, rescue and emergency medical response, offering the KID with an integrated and seamless service. The KESC employs a permanent Fire Chief, four Captains and 15 Call-out Firefighters who live live and work within the community and are available twenty-four hours per day. Paramedics respond to a range of both frontcountry and backcountry emergencies throughout the KID. Partnering with Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation, Kananaskis Public Safety for backcountry rescues. Mutual Aid AgreementsThe KID has Mutual Aid contracts for the delivery of structural fire suppression services throughout the KID.
