Development Review

Development Policies

Unlike most other municipalities, the KID is not subject to Part 17 of the Municipal Government Act which pertains to Planning and Development. Development within the KID is regulated through a municipal development review and permit process as established by the KID Land Use Order (Ministerial Order 07/02) and set out in detail in the document, Subdivision and Development Permit Application Process.

A Land Use Plan is also in effect in the KID. Printed copies of the plan are available through the Municipal Office at a cost of $20 each.

Development Authority

The Kananaskis Country Interdepartmental Consultative Committee (KCICC) functions as the Planning and Development Tribunal established under the KID Land Use Order. The KID is represented on this Committee by the Chief Administration Officer. The KID is represented on the Subdivision and Development Authority established under the Land Use Order by the Chief Administration Officer and one member of Council.

Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation provides a staff person to serve as a Development Officer, while building inspections and permitting are provided under contract to the KID. The Development Authority is responsible for receiving, processing, and deciding on development permit applications.
